About

Emma Slater

Thank you for taking the time to explore WholeMinds and see if I might be the right fit to align and support you back to psychological health.

I have spent my entire working career in the health industry with a desire to help others. Obtaining a Bachelor of Nursing fresh out of school I worked as a Registered Nurse in the operating theatres in both the public and private sectors in Brisbane - The Wesley Hospital, Prince Charles and St Andrew's Hospital.

A career working in health has taught me to appreciate the true value of health reinforcing my belief you cannot separate the mind from the body. My all time favorite book is 'The body keeps the score' by leading trauma specialist Bessel van der Kolk. I encourage you to read it if you're slightly intrigued or just want to know more.

'Every cell in your body is eavesdropping on your thoughts'

As a wife, mum of four and owner of WholeMinds I work Monday - Friday during school hours. My work hours are deliberately designed to accommodate the delicate balance between work and my family which I acknowledge won't work for some clients.

When I'm not in the office I'm likely being an Uber to my children ferrying them between school and sporting commitments, attending Pilates for my own physical and psychological health, or working at home on our farm (being outdoors is my best). I love music and explore all genres, I am known to annoy my family by selecting playlists dependent on what I'm cooking...you should try it!

Work Experience:

2000 - 2007

Completed Bachelor Nursing and worked as Registered Nurse (RN) in  in both public and private sectors in Brisbane.

As an RN I worked in peri-operative theatres with a particular interest in cardiac & thoracic theatres.

Relocated with my husband to Bundaberg to be near family as we raised our own family.

In Bundaberg I worked casually at both the Friendlies Private Hospital and Bundaberg Base Hospital in theatre and emergency.

2015 - 2023

Seeking a new challenge and passionate about health I went back to university and completed my Bachelor, Honors and Masters Degree at CQUniversity in Psychology.

In 2019 I registered as a Psychologist and worked in private practice at Healthwise.

2023 & Beyond

This year called for change and I established WholeMinds Psychology as a solo private practice.
